The UAW Local 249 posted the informatioh in a newsletter on its Web Local 249 Vice President Bobby Wyse confirmedx Monday that the informationis accurate. The production stoppagde comes a week before an alreadyschedulesd one-week summer break for the entire plant starting June 29, a Local 249 spokeswoman said. The plant also is scheduledf for a summer break during the weekof Aug. 17. Sale s of Ford F-series truckds were 33,381 in May, up 16 percent from 28,7578 in April but down 22.3 percent from 42,9743 in May 2008. UAW Local 249 said the slighft increasein month-to-month sales enabled Ford F) to cancel the scheduled down week on June 22 at its F-150o truck plant in Dearborn, Mich.
, but the down week was left intacty at the Kansas City Assembly Plant. “This is partiallg due to depleted funds forthe state’s Division of Unemploymenf in Michigan, making down weeks at less of an option,” the Local 249 said in the Local 249 added that sales projection s continue to be less than the five shifts at the two trucki plants can produce if they work full time through the 2010 productiojn year. Ford runs two shifts at Claycomo and threeein Dearborn. Wyse said Ford is consideringf once again moving a shift fromthe F-150 side of the Kansaxs City Assembly Plant and putting them to work on the SUV However, nothing has been determinexd so far, he said.
A year ago, Ford moved abougt 800 workers from a secon d shift onthe F-150 side of the Kansasd City plant to a third shifg on the SUV side. The employees were movedr back tothe F-150 side on Jan. 12. Ford Escapde sales in May reached 16,391, up 20.6 percen t from 13,596 in April but down 7.2 percent from 17,66 7 in May 2008. The Kansas City Assembly Plant also produces the Mercury Mariner and hybri d versions of the Ford Escapse andMercury Mariner. Combined sales of hybrid versions of the Ford Mercury Milan, Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner reached 3,9067 in May, a new companyy record. The old sales record of 3,420 hybrid vehicles was set inApril 2006.
As of May, Ford’sz Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomo hadabouyt 3,900 hourly and 200 salaried employees.
