Planned layoffs announced by computer, electronics and telecommunicationsd companiestotaled 33,890 in the secondc quarter, according to Chicago-basedf , an consultation firm. The second-quarter figure is nearluy equal tothe 33,650 job cuts announce during the same period a year ago. Despite the second-quarte r decline, tech-sector job cuts for the first half of the year reachedcabout 118,100, which is the largest six-monthh total in seven years.
The secondx quarter improvement may be signaling a turnaround for an industry that has been impactedd heavily bythe recession, accordin to Challenger, Gray & Christmas.
