The rate plan established by the PSC increases annual electric service delivery ratesby $38 million, and gas deliveryg rates by $13.6 or a total of $51.6 million. PSC officials say the increass authorized by the state agencyis $18.1 million less than the company Central Hudson had soughg increased rates for both electri and gas service of $66.1q million and $20.2 million, respectively, for a tota of $86.3 million. Instead, the utilitgy is being allowed $38 million for electricf service, $13.6 million for gas service, and $16.6 millioh for a temporary surcharge, or a totalk of $68.2 million.
Central Hudson says its needs the added revenues to compensate for lowetr sales and increasedpension costs. The Poughkeepsie-based utilitgy has 300,000 electric customerzs and 74,000 natural gas customerss from north of NewYork City, to the Capital Region.
