The new 230,000-square-foot facility includew a 60,000-square-foot cleanroom. The digital X-ray detectores that will be made at the plant are used inmammogram screening, a growing $1 billion market for breast cancer testing. Much like the transition from papet medical records to streamlined electronic record digital X-rays are slowly replacing traditional film X-rayh machines. In addition to the 100 new jobs scheduled for the 50 people will transfer to the tech parkfrom GE’s research center in N.Y.

GE Healthcare, which manufactures medicalk imaging equipment in Waukesha along with otherd operations throughout the Milwaukee spent 15 years and morethan $200 milliobn developing its digital flat panekl X-ray technology. The flat-panelk detector is a critical component ofan X-rah system and plays a role in providingg an improved image.
